/Talk:Documentation/iSCSI
From AnnvixPlease add comments here indicating what did and did not work for you as well as any recommendations you have or steps I've left out. On the subject of VMWareI have tried to share a bootable (but inactive) Windows system as an iSCSI target to a VMWare virtual machine. It recognized the system but refused to boot. It should be possible to use the conversion tools available to create the virtual machine based on the existing install to create a virtual machine from the installed machine. This could potentially allow someone to boot from a usb (or other bootable media) with an iSCSI capable system to create cloned virtual machines without disturbing the existing installation. I didn't have the resources or patience to continue the experiment, but would be interested to hear if someone has. I was happy with my ability to access my Windows files through iSCSI in Linux from the experiment. On the subject of AIX with iSCSIThe only AIX host I had available for testing with iSCSI at the time of my last attempt was a production system so my willingness to experiment was limited. I was able to configure the initator with minimal effort and activate the share as evidenced by the appearance of a new drive. I was not (willing to/brave enough/suicidal enough) to get it to become a new physical volume or successfully format it. At this time I have brought a development AIX system online but have not been able to find the opportunity to test further. Please post your success or insights if you are able to make the attempt. iSCSI with Windows ServerInitially Windows 2003 Server was unable to use some iSCSI targets I provided. It turns out that Windows does not like underscores in target names, although I didn't see that documented anywhere. After renaming the targets I was able to continue but have not thoroughly tested to see if the same limitation applies to other versions of Windows. Ancientt 22:35, 13 August 2007 (MDT) |
